Committee of Petitions in European Parliament Discusses Petition by Gabrovo Citizens Brussels, July 16 (BTA Corr. Atanas Matev) - The Committee of Petitions in the European Parliament discussed Wednesday a petition by Ivan Shumkov on behalf of Initiative Committee against the Terror of Long Vehicles in Transit through Gabrovo, on Fighting the Terror Long Vehicles Transiting Gabrovo, Northern Bulgaria. Gabrovo Mayor Tomislav Donchev presented the petition. The complaint is prompted by the slow action of the Bulgarian authorities to solve the problem with the serious harmful consequences from the the intensive traffic of heavy duty trucks which passes through the town. Donchev said that the Committee of Petitions is expected to conduct an inspection and exert pressure on the central government to undertake the necessary measures such as additional safety from the passing traffic in the short term and in the long term - providing of funding for road works along a ring road that will take the traffic out of the town. The Committee of Petitions will send a mission to Gabrovo to see the problems. This is indicative because each year the Committee sends only two such missions. Bulgarian MEP on the Committee of Petitions Doushana Zdravkova said that the petitions from Bulgaria to the Committee are bout 40. BTA Source: www.newsweb.bta
